to Alltel's My Circle calling plans will now be able to send/receive
unlimited text messages to/from those phone numbers that are part of
their circle or other Alltel customers as long as they subscribe to a
messaging pack costing $7.99 per month or more. They can also still
subscribe to fully unlimited messaging plans for $20 per month. The new
unlimited My Circle text messaging feature is available starting today. from Alltel

Google announced that it has signed a 5-year licensing agreement with
Tele Atlas. Tele Atlas will provide Google Maps for Mobile and other
Google map services with mapping information.

July 15, users of Windows Mobile smartphones will be able to download a
beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5, which brings a lot of features from
the desktop version of 9.5 to the mobile phone.

Purple Labs announced its acquisition of Openwave Software. Openwave
makes software for mobile phones. Its browser is used on many mobile
phones in the U.S., including many that operate on Verizon's network.
Purple Labs is based in France and supplies Linux software to 3G
phones. Under the terms of the deal, Purple Labs paid $30 million in
cash for Openwave's software and client assets, and will pay an
additional $2 million if certain conditions are met during the
transition. Openwave will provide support to Purple Labs for six months. more at Mobile Tech News »

Verizon Wireless announced a new partnership with Real's Rhapsody music
service and MTV. For $15 per month, subscribers to Verizon's V CAST
Music with Rhapsody service will have unlimited access to Rhapsody's 5
million songs both online and via their phones. Over-the-air downloads
will still cost $1.99, but you'll be able to download one version for
your phone, as well as an unprotected master file for your PC that you
can burn to CDs and play on multiple machines or devices. Subscribers
to the service can also download tracks directly from Rhapsody to their
PCs for 99 cents. These tracks are also free of DRM and can be burned
or played on or transferred to multiple machines. The service also
allows users to manage their purchases and library with Real's
software. V CAST Music with Rhapsody is available on V CAST-compatible
phones beginning today.
