Sony Ericsson announced a handful of handsets today with the 8 megapixel Sony Ericsson C905 leading the pack. The Wii-like gaming centric F305 follows along with three other lower midrange/low-end handsets - the S302, the K330 and the J132.

We already posted information about the upcoming Sony Ericsson C905 last week. Equipped with an 8 megapixel camera, it will surely be Sony Ericsson's flagship Cyber-shot handset. Face detection, both a xenon flash and a photo flash, as well as geotagging complete the camera feature set.

If you’ll recall from our recent review of HTC’s new flagship Touch Diamond, we were a bit underwhelmed by the GUI’s overall responsiveness and performance. Sure, it’s a beautiful new way to navigate the doldrums of the Windows Mobile interface, but what good are appearances if there’s nothing underneath to back it up? Apparently, HTC has taken note of the TouchFLO 3D issues and has incorporated a number of fixes into a new ROM version that is now shipping with every European-spec Diamond to hit the shelves. The company hasn’t spoken to any sort of specific tweaks or changes they made, but initial subjective reports seem to favor the new firmware over the original version, with users reporting a faster, more responsive experience. Engadget is reporting that Helio retail managers have received a memo saying the company's store and kiosk locations will be closing.  The rumored merger between Helio and Virgin seems to be at an impasse, and it now appears it will be a takeover by Virgin.  It would appear that Helio will be the last carrier of the MVNO boom to go under (R.I.P. ESPN, Amp'd, et al.)  There is no word on what will become of Helio's impressive handset lineup, such as the Ocean 2, but we hope Virgin picks up where Helio will (alledgedly) leave off.  Of course neither company, nor SK Telecom, have commented on this so we'll have to see how it officially plays out.

Cricket has recently begun offering its customers over-the-air backups for personal data, such as contact lists. The service, called My Backup, syncs and saves contacts to Cricket's servers automatically or whenever the customer chooses. Users will also be able to import contacts from email accounts such as Yahoo into a Web portal. It will cost $2 per month and works on more than 20 models in Cricket's lineup.

Delta Airlines is currently testing a system for using cell phones as boarding passes at NYC's LaGuardia Airport. Travelers departing from LaGuardia can download the passes to their mobile phones and skip the check-in process.

Sprint is offering non-PDA and non-smartphone owners the ability to receive their Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes email on their mass market handsets. The service, called Sprint Mobile Email Work, is available for free to those who subscribe to unlimited data plans. If you don't have an unlimited data plan, it will cost $10 per month. The service will work with a number of devices from Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sanyo.
