23rd June 2008, 10:12 AM by Eric M. Zeman According
to CNet, Infosys was recently granted a patent for technology that
would enable devices such as mobile phones to take, send and receive 3D
images. The way the technology works is, a cameraphone would take a
series of standard 2D images. A processor using Infosys' Fourier
transformations then calculates and renders a 3D image based on the
data present in the 2D images without losing resolution. Part of
Infosys' recent patent includes a way for such files to be compressed
and sent through current Internet pipes. The images could then be
displayed and/or projected onto a 3D screen with the right combination
of hardware. Infosys believes this technology will be widespread by the
year 2010. more at CNet » / Infosys Patent »
