iPhone now enhanced with video ringtones


iFonetec released an application for the iPhone, called “VideosTone”, which logically adds support for video ringtones. It can be found in the Installer after the http://app.ifonetec.com source is added. АТ&Т announced Apple iPhone 3G pricing plans today, so countdown to 11th July will likely involve quite a bit of number crunching.

New subscribers and legit upgraders will be getting the new 8GB version for $199, or another $100 on top for the 16GB variety. The asking price for current AT&T customers who are not eligible for an upgrade is $399 for the 8GB model and $499 for the 16GB model.

A contract-free iPhone 3G gets mentioned as well, though there's no actual commitment to a release date. Pricing goes $599 (8GB) and $699 (16GB).

Another Sony Ericsson phone has leaked once again. Codenamed Remi, the newbie shares a great deal of the Walkman-branded Sony Ericsson looks and insides. Looks like the Walkman and the T-series will compete for the affiliation of Remi. Hunch or else, the Unofficial SE Blog call the Remi the "new T610". As of now we are simply not sure what the market name of the Remi will be.

Topday AT&T formally announced details regarding the iPhone, including customer eligibility and different pricing plans. The 8GB 3G iPhone will cost $199, and the 16GB iPhone will cost $299. These prices will be available to customers who purchased an iPhone before July 11; to new customers; and to any customer who is eligible for an upgrade discount. Customers who are not eligible for a discount may pay $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Either way, a new two-year agreement is required. At some point in the future, AT&T will offer no-contract availability of the 3G iPhone at the full retail price of $599 and $699 price for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. T-Mobile has confirmed that it will be raising the rate for sending/receiving text messages beginning on August 29, 2008. For customers who don't subscribe to any messaging bundles, or those who surpass their bundle's limit, the rate will go up from 15 cents to 20 cents per message sent/received in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico. Pricing for T-Mobile messaging bundles is not changing.

A number of mobile network operators, including 3 Group, AT&T, T-Mobile, Telenor, Telefonica, Telecom Italia and Vodafone, have announced a new initiative to help speed the development of mobile applications across multiple platforms. The new entity will be called Bondi. They will create a secure web services interface that can be used by all web developers across multiple device platforms. The goal is to make sure developers have access to all the features on mass market handsets and have a simpler way to reach them with their applications. Bondi falls under the umbrage of the Open Mobile Terminal Platform organization.

Today UTStarcom announced that it is selling off its personal communications devices business to a private group of investors for $240 million. The investors are taking the handset business and forming a new company with it, which will be called Personal Communications Devices. It will retain most of the current leadership, who will also be part owners, and continue to design and manufacture cellular phones and other communication equipment. UTStarcom could earn another $50 million depending on the success of the new venture over a three-year period. UTStarcom said the sale will allow it to focus on its core IP-based products. The transaction is expected to be completed within two days, pending regulatory approvals.
