A PSP-style gaming cellphone from Sony is one of those perennial rumors you generally see rolled-out in naff “the year ahead” prediction features, but this time around it’s Sony Magazine itself that’s dropping hints about the manufacturer’s mobile plans. According to the article, the “PSP-Style Phone” could be in shops as early as February. While admitting that the idea might have merit, Sony has continuously denied that a PSP-based gaming cellphone is in development; in fact, Sony Ericsson VP Merran Wrigley told Brighthand’s Ed Hardy that the company doesn’t believe that “given the current state of mobile technology it would be able to create a phone worthy of the PlayStation brand”.
